The Strawberry Ballerina
Four-ish years ago my sister asked me to paint something for her. She had a big blank wall at the foot of her staircase just calling for a painting. Anything in particular, I asked. Just something that makes you think of me. Somehow I knew the basic concept of what I was going to paint right away. It was going to be a dancer. A strawberry dancer (must have been a subconscious ode to Strawberry Shortcake). Care Bears would be involved. As would the consumption of a lot of white wine. After that, it was just a matter of filling in the details that make this story unique to my sister. And before I knew it, The Strawberry Ballerina was born. It equals the largest painting I’ve completed and at times, may have been the most daunting. So after four years, I’m proud to finally present…
The Strawberry Ballerina. 36”x48”. Acrylic on canvas.
Never ever grow up!
