MAVERICK THE GREAT

I may be wrong, but sometimes I feel like there's a misconception that artists don't make mistakes in their work, or that the art just comes easily to them. As an artist myself, I sometimes fall into this trap as well. I look at some of the artists I admire, and I'll see a painting or a video of them working on a painting and I think it's just so effortless. This can't be farther from the truth. I struggle with each and every painting I work on. Some more than others. I really love this painting because only I know how difficult it was for me. The frustration and struggle became so overwhelming at one point that I completely lost it for one brief moment and took a brush full of paint and basically "X'd" out the painting. As soon as I did it, it was like "what have I done!" All those hours wasted. I had no choice but to start from scratch. In the end, I think it's a better painting because of it. It made me change my focus, slow down, and remember to enjoy what I was doing.Maverick the Great. 16" x 20".
